The cheesy love story of Brandon Bussi and Mary Raclawski

Brandon and Mary crossed paths when they were both students in college. At the time, Mary was a track and field athlete, while Bussi was a hockey player. Over time they became friends, which led to love. Recalling their early days of romance, Mary said in a recent interview with People:
“I ran cross country and track there, and he was a hockey player. The first day he moved on campus, we met in the dorms and he lived right above me and we soon realized we had a class together. So from that moment on, we said, ‘You know what? Let’s walk to class together.’ Honestly, the rest is history. We’ve been together for six and a half years.”
The duo had spent a lot of time in a long-distance relationship. Explaining their busy schedules, Mary shared that dating as college athletes wasn’t easy. In the same interview, Mary mentioned:
“I think any student-athlete will tell you that it’s definitely a challenge and a learning curve. For us, it was very difficult because I was in season almost all year for cross country in the fall and then track and field in the spring. So it was always very busy. And then their hockey season runs from October to March. So we were always overlapping. There was a lot of travel involved, and we had to do long distance for quite a while.”
While exchanging vows in front of family and close friends, the couple knew they wanted to get married in a Catholic church. Sharing her views on the matter, Mary shared, “Our faith is an important part of our relationship, so celebrating the sacrament of marriage in a traditional church ceremony was our top priority.” Carolina Hurricanes star Brandon Bussi added that with their wedding venue they wanted to pay homage to their beginnings. In his words:
“Boston is where we first started our lives together outside of college at Western Michigan University. Every summer while we were dating, Mary would visit me while I was training as a goalie in Boston, so she holds a very special place in our hearts. We have made some incredible friends who have become like family in Boston.”
In the same candid interview with People, Mary admitted that planning her big day in the middle of Brandon’s busy NHL season, especially before the Stanley Cup Finals, was a little stressful. But the most important thing was to finally be husband and wife. She said: “We promise to be there for each other in sickness and in health, in some of the best times of our lives and potentially some of the most difficult. I find comfort in knowing that wherever life takes us, we will be okay because we have each other. I am so grateful to have found a man like Brandon.”
Congratulations to Brandon Bussi and Mary Raclawski.
