20 of the Internet’s Crazy Travel Hacks. “Pack a standard power strip in your carry-on. Airport gates never have enough power outlets, so if you find one full, ask the person if you can unplug it, plug in the power strip, and give them back their power outlet along with five new ones. You’ll become the hero of the terminal.”

Also, two comments from readers:
Says M.Kim about the childhood lessons you can never abandon: “We moved to a very rural town when I was 10. My mom was always amazed by the miles and miles of corn fields and commented on it all the time, to the point that her three pre-teen children started ignoring her. So, my dad instituted a rule: You MUST agree with Mom when she comments about the corn. He would direct us like a conductor: ‘That’s it!’ It’s a lot of corn, mom!’ Despite all our rebellions during adolescence, we never objected to this rule. Now, 20 years later, as I drive the same roads as an adult, my husband, who was not present for any of this but collapsed due to my own foolishness, looks at me as we look at the cornfields and exclaim to each other, ‘That’s a lot of corn!’”
Kerry says what childhood lessons you can never abandon: “My mom taught us to always look at the sky. Appreciate the colors, see the shapes of the clouds, watch a plane fly, let the sun hit your face. Not only is it a lesson in slowing down, but it also opens up your chest and shoulders. It’s a lovely thing, even when it’s raining.”
