mmm, a summer appetizer without cooking.
Are you going to see the new thing? Little house on the prairie? This New York Mag article I was curious: “Wilder’s story is either a grand, hopeful saga of how this country was built or a loaded piece of American propaganda, filled with convenient loopholes and racist depictions of the Native Americans whose lands the Ingalls claim for themselves. The adaptation maintains both perspectives, reaching sweeping romanticism one moment and grim reconsideration the next… Its greatest strength is that it often feels like a show at war with itself.”
The Warby Parker Quiz It’s very fun and I found my perfect glasses (really).
“I would never paint a wall white..”
Also, three comments from readers:
Christie says have a great weekend: “Today I was working at my local coffee shop (Liz’s Book Bar in Brooklyn), and two friends were in front of me, catching up to me. One woman said to the other: ‘You look amazing!’ and the other replied: ‘Thank you, I left a man.’ I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, but I couldn’t help but listen. I wanted to go up later and tell her how amazing my life has been since my marriage ended, but I didn’t want to be weird. I’m thinking of her and sending her ‘best summer ever’ vibes, and the same to anyone who needs it.”
Kristen says what funny things you’ve said as a parent: “My three-year-old son loves it. Beauty and the beastespecially Lumière and Cogsworth. After watching the movie several times, he started calling people “oversized pocket watches.” At one point I had to sit him down and say, “We don’t call people pocket watches out of anger.” I never imagined that would be a phrase I would use!”
Emily says of how beautiful this opera singer’s Paris apartment is: “That’s the fanciest apartment on the internet. Maybe the kitchen is my favorite? I love seeing a house that’s actually lived in. Come to think of it, all the house tours on your blog are like that, Joanna! Dude, your whole blog is like that! Anxiety-free. I think that’s why it’s so loved! For its sense of acceptance and quiet curiosity.” [Thank you so much, Emily!!!]
