How was your weekend? A few months ago, a CoJ reader named Molly asked us if we could share weekend recaps from time to time, so here’s mine and if you want, share yours in the comments…
My honorary niece Grace, who lives in England, will spend the summer conducting medical research in New York. I’m so happy you’re here! Since Saturday was very rainy, we took her to art of playinga magic and game store in Brooklyn Heights.
We loved playing with the little puzzles. If you spot one, the shop owner rings a bell, which was the ultimate thrill for a 13, 16, 23 and 47 year old.
Later, I saw this funny New Yorker comic…
..and met up with Alison, who, like the incredible weirdo that she is, is now wearing a garbage collector wherever she goes. “People passing by sometimes compare me to David Sedaris“He laughs. “But it’s a small way to give back to the neighborhood.” (Side note: How cute is that! her skirt?)
Then we went to our friends’ apartment to watch England play in the World Cup. What a match, gahhh!!! (This onion holder made me laugh.)
Finally, and finally, freddy He returned from a week-long cruise with his extended family.
We laughed that every phone call from the ship felt like this: “I’ll get back to you, I promise!” Also, did you know that actress Sonya Walger, who played Penny, is also the author of the incredible novel Lion and is ALSO a Cup of Jo reader? How amazing is that?!!
