It was filmmaker Ashoke Pandit who first confirmed the sad news of actor Bharat Kapoor’s death. Expressing his grief, he wrote on Instagram, “Sad to hear about the demise of veteran theater and film actor Bharat Kapoor ji. I have great memories working with him in the early days of my career. A great human being. Om Shanti.” According to a report in India Today, he was 80 years old when he breathed his last around 3:30 pm at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital. His last rites were reportedly carried out later that night at 6:30 pm with family and close friends of the actor in attendance.
Avtar Gill, actor and Bharat’s close friend, told the publication, “I just came from the cremation, it was done at 6:30 pm. He died today at 3 pm at Sion Hospital, Mumbai. He was not feeling well since last three days. Since last three days his multiple organs started failing.” While speaking to SCREEN, Avtar revealed that it was Bharat’s son who informed him that the actor was not feeling well. He said the funeral was attended by Rakesh Bedi, Ramesh Kumar, actor Kuldeep Singh and a few others belonging to his theater group, IPTA. Avtar shared that the Bharat prayer meeting will be held a few days later on April 30, 2026, from 5 to 7 pm at his house.
