Marvel Studios has officially set the Internet on fire with the release of the first teaser for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. In a move few saw coming, the teaser confirms Chris Evans’ monumental return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Steve Rogers, the original Captain America.
The short clip, which premiered in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, offers a grounded and emotional look at the legendary hero. In the footage, Steve Rogers is seen riding a motorcycle through a quiet suburban environment and eventually stopping at a 1950s-style house. The scene seems like a direct continuation of his ending in Avengers: Endgame, where he chose to stay in the past to live a full life with Peggy Carter.
In an emotional moment, Steve is shown looking at his old Captain America suit before putting it away, seemingly choosing his domestic life over his superhero duties. However, the biggest surprise comes when he is shown holding a newborn baby, hinting at a new chapter for the character as a father. The trailer concludes with the familiar text, “Steve Rogers will return for Avengers: Doomsday,” followed by a countdown leading to the film’s December 18, 2026 release.
This isn’t the only major comeback keeping fans on their toes. While Chris Evans returns as the Star-Spangled Avenger, Robert Downey Jr. also returns to the franchise, but with a huge twist. Instead of playing Iron Man, Downey Jr. will play the film’s main antagonist, Doctor Doom. In addition to these stars, Chris Hemsworth is also confirmed to return as Thor, further solidifying the reunion of the MCU’s “Big Three.”
Directed by the Russo brothers, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a massive crossover event. With the return of fan-favorite veterans and the introduction of a dangerous new threat, the road to December 2026 promises plenty of excitement for Marvel fans around the world.
