It’s not every day we celebrate a round number as nice as 400, but this is, in fact, Australian Aviation’s 400th. We can’t help but wonder if its founder, Jim Thorn, back in 1977, could have foreseen that it would last this long or reach so many people over the years.

Things look very different now at number 400 than they did at number 1, or even at number 300 in 2012, when Gerard Frawley was at the helm of this landmark publication, Virgin Australia had just bought Tiger Airways, Jetstar was still flying A330s, the 767 was still a common sight, Qantas’ 787s were still a twinkle in Alan Joyce’s eye and the 747s were still king. from the skies of Australia.
