A few weeks ago, in May 2026, Martin Short sat down for his first interview after the unexpected suicide of his daughter Katherine. During the talk, Martín also remembered the death of his wife. He also mentioned that his wife and daughter’s last words were similar as they asked him to let them go. Martin Short was quoted as saying:
“You know, it’s been a nightmare for the family. But the realization [is] that mental health and cancer, like my wife, are illnesses and sometimes illnesses are terminal. And my daughter struggled for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder, other things, and she did the best she could until she couldn’t. So Nan’s last words to me were: “Martin, let me go.” and what she [Katherine] All he said was, ‘Dad, let me go.'”
