Reflections on the changing currents ~ From water to fire, Mercury and Jupiter plus a dynamic aspect for August

Reflections on the changing currents ~ From water to fire, Mercury and Jupiter plus a dynamic aspect for August

Lately I find myself caught between two different desires. Part of me longs for the days gone by, the quiet summer nights reading on the back porch, the quiet afternoons and the long stretches of time with empty space to read, reflect, write a letter or just play in the garden. This part of me seems full of nostalgia for how life used to be.

Another part of me is impatient, full of big dreams and exciting plans. This part of me is restless and ready to move, full of questions about what will be next, which adventure should be first and which should be second. This part of me seems ready to rush forward, leaving behind familiar environments for the opportunity to discover and find new sights, perspectives, people and possibilities.

Mercury in Cancer and Nostalgia

On my walk this morning, I reflected on how the most nostalgic part of me seems suited to taking Mercury’s long journey through Cancer: my mind turns to memory and memories. I long for the way things felt before, the way memory makes the past seem more comforting or safe, even if it really wasn’t.

These longings for times past also seem to resonate with Jupiter at the end of Cancer. Now Jupiter feels slower, as if there is a desire to absorb as much of the past as possible, before Jupiter changes signs.

Air and fire signs: hot and energizing

And while there’s already a part of me ready for adventure, I know that part will only get stronger and stronger when Jupiter enters Leo on June 30.

With the three outer planets plus Saturn already in hot signs (air and fire signs are hot, while earth and water signs are cold), energy is bubbling within. That part of me that is filled with big dreams and visions of daring adventures is ready to burst. Maybe you can feel it too?

I know there is a lot of talk about the major aspects and alignments of the outer planets that will occur in July (I have shared some ideas within the members), but one aspect that I don’t think has received the attention it deserves is one that will begin in August and continue until July 2027 and has to do with enthusiasm, progress and breaking new ground.

This is thanks to a series of trines from Jupiter in Leo to Saturn in Aries, the first of which will peak around August 31. There will be a second aspect of Jupiter trine Saturn in April 2027 and a third and final fire trine between these two important time markers in July 2027.

Jupiter in Leo Trine Saturn in Aries: August 2026 – July 2027

There is a lot of momentum and energy in this Jupiter-Saturn aspect, which is the opening or crescent trine in the longer twenty-year Jupiter-Saturn cycle, which began in December 2020.

If you’re familiar with the phases of the Moon, Jupiter is moving into the more expansive section of the first quarter phase, when there is a trine between the fastest-moving and slowest-moving planet.

This part of the phase cycle is dynamic, active and ready to move forward. The longer Jupiter/Saturn cycle speaks of collective tendencies, and the next 12 months offer great creative energy, as well as enthusiasm, confidence and boldness. Reaching new heights will be possible.

This kind of constant boldness unleashed over the next 12 months thanks to Jupiter in Leo trine Saturn in Aries could inspire you to take thoughtful risks or encourage you to take a leap toward a more inspired life.

So while the Moon’s moods may currently have my mind’s attention, inspiring me to wallow in nostalgia while I can, I know that this is temporary, and that throughout July, as Jupiter settles into Leo, that bolder, more forward-looking inner cue wondering what’s next will become stronger and more pressing.

The transition from water to fire

Come mid-August, when Mercury enters Leo, creative inspiration and uplifting ideas, encounters, and visions will abound.

One way you might find it helpful to think about the next six or eight weeks might be as a transition from water to fire, as the last major planet, Jupiter, shifts into the same hot group of signs as the other major planets.

While Mercury’s extended path through Cancer may have you clinging to tradition and past rituals for a while yet, there are discoveries, innovations, and new dreams that will shape just a month or two down the road.

Jupiter trine Saturn could inspire you to come up with a plan, schedule, or timeline that will help you make a bold vision a reality. A collaboration involving Jupiter and Saturn can help you shape your dreams into a form or project that is possible, weighing practical factors with desires for freedom, growth, and discovery.

And yes, with one more planet moving into the hot group of signs, the pace will be even faster.

Perhaps this post can help you dive into your favorite mid-year rituals while you can, knowing that the weeks and months ahead will help you (and many of your loved ones) boldly launch into the next, new chapter.

I’m curious, are you feeling more in touch with the nostalgic, playing it safe, sticking with the vibes you know from Mercury in Cancer, or are you already starting to tune into the excitement and energy for adventure, discovery, and expansion as promised by Jupiter trine Saturn?
