Leather saddle removes leather layers

Leather, a material long associated with roughness, was sought for survival before being chemically structured, preserved and shaped into something worn, first on the skin and then over the shoulder. The house of Dior is no stranger to this earthy, animalistic material, and has a strong portfolio of leather goods under its belt, such as the Lady Dior and, most recognizable, the Dior Saddle bag. The love affair with the equestrian sport shoulder bag began in the early 2000s, debuting on the runway at John Galliano’s Spring Summer 2000 show. Since then, the Saddle Bag has reappeared in numerous recent collections. Now, the bag’s iconic touch returns in a different form: reinterpreted in a fragrance that embodies its bold appeal.

Unlike the Dior Saddle Bag, which combines saddlery expertise with fashion-specific design, Dior Beauty brings this leather craftsmanship to the world of perfumery, reformulating the sensation of leather on the skin and forming an extension of the body through the La Collection Privée Cuir Saddle. Imagined by Francis Kurkdjian as a new take on the masculine accord, the fragrance has a certain suede-like sweetness, a far cry from the smoky and tobacco notes of traditional leather perfumes. “Leather is not a [fragrance] family in itself, it is an agreement,” says Kurkdjian, as the trail of the fragrance displays woody and floral notes rooted in leathery nuances instead of an overwhelming finish.

To create this unique composition, the original leather accord was softened and diluted into a blend of cedar and salicylate notes that, once sprayed on the skin, give the impression of organic leather that sits on the surface and slowly embraces the body. Supple yet sensual, the Cuir Saddle was conceived as an extension of the iconic leather bag, with a matching couture leather cap and travel spray trim to keep a second skin flask close to you always.
