In honor of Jane Goodall’s birthday on April 3, I thought it would be fun to post her birth chart and hear her thoughts.
You may be familiar with his pioneering work with chimpanzees, or perhaps you’ve seen his Famous Last Words interview on Netflix.
One thing that stands out to me about Goodall’s chart is how much energy and drive she offers.
Of course, that may seem obvious when you look at his Sun and Mars in Aries, or his Moon in Sagittarius right on the ascendant.
But if you dig a little deeper, there is even more that contributes to this quality of energy when you dive into the aspects and movement, as well as the moon phase and some of the key planet placements.
Location and aspects of the Moon
Having the Moon, which when born at night assumes the role of sect light, rising near the ascendant, can be a sign of both intuitive and felt sense, as well as one’s ability to connect with the public.
The Moon moves into a trine with that exalted Sun in Aries, then Mars in Aries in ruler or domicile.
Those trines quickly sextile Jupiter, the ruler of the ascendant, which is favorably placed in Libra in the 11th house.
When the Moon is involved in aspects with planets that are well placed by sign, sect or house, especially aspects that apply and within the Moon’s 13 degree orb, there is a general undercurrent of movement and activity in a chart, a sense that intended actions can be undertaken.
Since this is a Moon in a fire sign applying to two well-placed planets and another fire sign, that dynamic, bold, brave quality is even stronger.
An initial feeling this may give is that there are challenges to face and that this person might be willing to set out alone to face them. A quote from Goodall that captures this awareness of the impact one person can have is this:
“You can’t go a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Jane Goodall
Exploring the sign and phase of the Moon
The Moon in Goodall’s chart also stands out for its combination of phases and signs. His Moon is in disseminated Moon phase and is in Sagittarius.
Both the diffusion phase and the sign Sagittarius people are enthusiastic about sharing knowledge.
This is a wonderful combination for teaching and transmitting wisdom, especially wisdom that one has sought or discovered through one’s own efforts and experiences.
As the influence comes through the light of the sect and a planet in the First House, it becomes a strong signature of life.
This Goodall quote is a great expression of this phase and moon sign combination, as it expresses the way we learn and connect through stories:
“Just tell stories to people, try to find out who they are, try to find something that connects you to them.” Jane Goodall
The ascending ruling planet: Jupiter in Libra
Another advantage in Goodall’s chart is that her ascendant ruler is Jupiter and that Jupiter is beautifully placed in the house of her joy, in the 11th.th home.
This offers a boost and a sort of cushioning or lifting quality. It shows that benefactors can work on Goodall’s behalf and that support can come at opportune times throughout life. Jupiter is in a place from which it can bonus itself by overcoming and offers this elevating influence to the Moon.
It can also show that a guiding principle is justice, fairness and equality and that integrity is worth fighting for.
A well-placed Jupiter as ascendant ruler does not mean that life is perfect or without challenges, but it is an uplifting influence that can turn even difficult experiences into useful outcomes or help you access support and resources to overcome challenges when they arise.
What stands out to you in Jane Goodall’s graph? Do you have something similar in your own chart?
