The shark alert reaches Ibiza when an image captures a predator circling the marina

A shark believed to be between two and three meters long was seen circling the Marina Botafoc in Ibiza, Spain, by a bosun on one of the boats docked at the marina.

A shark alert has been issued at a holiday spot loved by Brits after the beast was filmed swimming in a harbour.

A boat worker in Ibiza, Spain, noticed the injured animal hanging around the marina earlier this week. Petty Officer Ediz Mehmet said he arrived at Marina Botafoc around 8 a.m. on Monday, February 9, when he saw the animal.

He said he saw what appeared to be a blue shark moving through the harbor. He said: “I work on a boat that is moored at Marina Botafoc and when I got there this morning around 8am there was what looked like a blue shark about two or three meters long swimming in circles in the harbour.”

Most adult blue sharks measure between 1.7 and 2.2 m, although some have been observed growing up to 4 m in length. According to Mehmet, 46, from Cala de Bou, the shark seemed injured. He said he was behaving unusual as he moved through the water.

“He must be confused by the bad weather,” said one person who saw the shark. Photos and videos captured by those who saw the beast show it swimming back and forth between the pontoons, and witnesses noted a small wound on the top of the dorsal fin, which some believe may have been a bite.

It comes after a shark measuring around 2 meters was seen prowling the coast of a Spanish beach, prompting the evacuation of tourists. Beachgoers were asked to leave after the 6ft 6in shark fin was seen poking above the waves just meters from where people were bathing.

“It’s a huge beast,” said one local as onlookers gathered on the shore to film the predator. Lifeguards warned beachgoers to keep a safe distance while an emergency services boat was dispatched.

The boat crew managed to move the shark away from the shallow waters, where it was at risk of running aground. The close encounter took place on La Reya beach in Puerto de Mazarrón, near Murcia in Spain. Clips of the shark were shared on TikTok, one of which went viral with nearly 1 million views and thousands of comments.

“Between jellyfish and sharks, I’ve lost all desire to go to the beach,” one person said. Another added: “It’s a blue shark and doesn’t normally attack humans.”

“I was swimming there in the bay, I turned around and that blue shark appeared next to me,” Miguel said. Alred noted, “He was probably in some kind of trouble, that’s why he was swimming.”
