The strongest indicator of confidence in the biggest expansion of Australian aviation in 25 years is the ongoing upgrade of domestic airport infrastructure, led by the planned opening of Western Sydney International Airport in late 2026. New runways at Perth and Melbourne will be complemented by additional terminals at those airfields, as well as at Brisbane and Adelaide.
At the same time, new fleets (often operating larger aircraft) will increase the scale of domestic travel across Australia. International routes are also becoming more competitive and major global carriers are looking to capture this growing market.
This significant increase in air travel will inevitably create greater demand for operational crews. Traditionally, pilot careers in Australia have followed a “classic” progression: basic training, working on small aircraft in modest roles and then progressing to mainline aircraft with major airlines. However, in recent years (and even more so in the future) new pilots can reasonably expect a rapid transition to high-performance commercial aircraft, both turboprop and jet, sometimes immediately after initial license issuance. To support this change, training platforms must be updated to reflect the complexity of these more advanced aircraft.
Fortunately, proven solutions already exist for this new training environment. Based in Nantes, France, ALSIM has been developing and manufacturing FAA and EASA certified FNPT II, FNPT II MCC and AATD flight simulators. ALSIM is well recognized for its experience and expertise since 1994. ALSIM hardware and software is made 100% at homemeaning there are no bottlenecks in the supply chain and therefore encourages peace of mind that delivery times can be met for our customers. ALSIM’s main objective lies in innovation: we want to anticipate the needs of our clients and remain at the forefront of technology.
Today, ALSIM has more than 450 devices installed and certified in more than 60 countries, serving more than 400 customers worldwide.
A particularly strong point of the ALSIM range of devices is the flexibility of its devices, many of which allow rapid configuration changes between aircraft types (single-engine/twin-engine, piston/turbine, conventional/fly-by-wire; see specifications at https://www.alsim.com/simulators/). Combined with fast 24/7 online support, this ensures high utilization rates, benefiting both training organizations and their students.
ALSIM already has more than 10 devices installed and certified in Australia, including:
- AL250
- AL42
- ALSR20
- Airliner
These devices are operated by various ALSIM clients including Airways Aviation, Australian Wings Academy, Flight One, Learn to Fly, Team Aviation, FTA (Flight Training Adelaide), etc.
ALSIM also recently celebrated a major milestone in Australia: FTA (Flight Training Adelaide) became the country’s first operator to certify an ALSIM Airliner simulator, successfully obtaining CASA approval.
He Airliner is a FNPT II MCC certified hybrid simulator that combines conventional and fly-by-wire flight controls, offering the ideal platform for advanced APS MCC and MPL Phase II training. Designed specifically around APS MCC learning objectives, it develops key airline competencies such as automation management, crew coordination, leadership, and threat and error management. Its generic airliner design provides greater flexibility and broader skill transfer, ensuring that trainees are confidently prepared for airline pilot operations and can seamlessly transition to any type rating, regardless of aircraft type.

What do customers think?

“The quality and realism of the Alsim AL42 simulator has allowed us to improve our training model, particularly for our IFR students. We will soon be hiring trainee cadets for a major airline through our Diamond Airline Academy program, and adding a second AL42 will allow us to further enhance our training capabilities.”

“After an extensive review of current technologies, Tisdall Aviation Group has chosen the Alsim AL250 platform due to its unique multi-functional capability and our long experience with its predecessor AL200, which demonstrated unparalleled reliability and student appeal. The high-fidelity visual experience and ergonomic design of the AL250 makes them a natural choice for our state-of-the-art pilot training schools at Flight One Academy at Brisbane’s Archerfield Airport and Australian Wings Academy on the Gold Coast.”

“We founded TEAM Aviation with a clear vision. We wanted to give people access to private aviation in a safe way. We wanted to give people (who we call members of our TEAM) the ability to access the latest Cirrus SR series aircraft and enjoy the life that comes with private air travel. After extensive market research, it became clear that the ALSIM ALSR20 was the only solution that allowed us to provide flight training as part of an integrated flight training solution for members of TEAM. We demand quality and safety in everything we do, and it is integrated into our values and brand. Our ALSIM ALSR20 is not just a kit for senior instrument-rated pilots, it is for every member of the TEAM from day 1 to their retirement.
