Mexico’s tsunami warning center says no rise in sea level has been noted so far.
Tsunami warnings have already been eliminated for Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán.
It says: “Based on information from the National Tide Gauge Network and sea level observations along the coasts near the epicenter, NO anomalous variations in sea level have been recorded.
“Monitoring by the National Tide Gauge Network will continue until the alert is canceled. Tsunami Alert is ruled out for the states of: Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán.
“Keep the population away from the beaches until the alert is cancelled; strong currents are expected at the port entrances.”
Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, head of the Navy, said: “We only expect an increase in the water level of up to half a meter on some beaches due to the tsunami effect caused by the earthquake. The population is recommended to stay away from the beaches for the moment, but there is no problem. Thank you.”
