Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 continued to deliver high-scoring thrillers like Seattle Orcas carried out a sensational chase until defeat Washington Freedom for five wickets at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. In a contest that featured over 430 runs, four half-centuries and countless swings of momentum, it was the Orcas who maintained their nerve to chase a daunting target of 217 with 14 balls to spare.
After Washington Freedom seemed destined to score well above 250, there was a dramatic collapse caused by Ottneil Baartman It changed the tone of the game. The South African pacer produced a devastating spell at the death before Seattle’s batsmen completed one of the most impressive run chases of the season.
Tim Seifert and Matthew Breetzke launch brutal assault in record-breaking chase
When asked to chase 217, Seattle Orcas came out with aggressive intentions from the first step. Shayan Jahangir provided a fast start with 17 runs off just nine deliveries before Tim Seifert took complete control of the process. The New Zealand keeper-batsman produced one of the innings of the tournament, smashing 78 runs off just 33 balls. Seifert dismantled the Freedom bowling attack with a flurry of boundaries and sixes, racing towards his half-century in impressive fashion. His courageous attitude immediately put pressure back on the opposition.
Seifert found excellent support from Matthew Breetzkewho continued the attack with a magnificent 66 in 36 deliveries. Together, the duo put together a match-clinching 89-run partnership in just 46 balls, taking Seattle to 141 before Seifert finally departed at the end of the 11th over. Washington briefly sensed an opportunity after quick wickets by Breetzke, Shimron Hetmyer and Tim Robinson reduced Seattle’s momentum. However, Dasun Shanaka made sure that there was no late drama. The Sri Lankan all-rounder played an impressive unbeaten 36 off just 12 balls, ending the chase in style and guiding the Orcas home with over two overs remaining.
Ottneil Baartman’s Devastating Spell Derails Washington Freedom
Earlier in the afternoon, Washington Freedom appeared headed for a mammoth total after michel owen, Mark Chapman and andries gous dominated the intermissions. Owen set the tone with a quickfire 61 off 25 balls, while Chapman shot 57 and Gous added a quickfire 35. At 175/2 after 14 overs, Freedom looked destined for a total close to 270. It was then that Baartman produced the match-changing spell.
The pacer struck twice in the 15th over, removing Gous and Glenn Maxwell in consecutive deliveries. Chapman went down shortly after, before Baartman fired him again. Pienaar howitzer and Marco Jansen during another outstanding over. From a dominant position, Freedom lost five wickets in quick succession and managed just 31 runs in the last four overs.
Baartman finished with outstanding figures of 4/33, while Shanaka and Jasdeep Singh He contributed three and two wickets respectively. The dramatic collapse ultimately proved costly as the Seattle Orcas completed one of the most successful chases in MLC history, leaving fans stunned and social media abuzz with reactions.
