Working their way to an empathic 4-1 victory against Real Valladolid earlier in the month, Santander have won their four previous meetings at the Estadio El Sardinero by a remarkable aggregate score of 16-5. With that stellar flurry highlighted by a 5-1 win against Almería on April 12, López’s record-breaking team will look to make a final statement here.
As for the visitors, who crawled to what was an essential 3-0 home win against Leganés last time out, Cádiz have all but mathematically extended their Segunda status. However, despite opening the 2025/26 campaign with an eye on mounting a genuine play-off, it has been a nightmare campaign for Imanol Idiakez’s side and they have been the subject of much scrutiny. Closing out April with a 2-1 home defeat against Las Palmas, Sunday’s guests have managed just one win in any of their previous 11 consecutive attempts, a streak stretching back to March 13. Having spent this entire season falling to the bottom of the Segunda table, they have also continued to show some glaring problems outside the JP Financial Stadium. Including a pair of 3-0 wins against Sporting Gijón and Real Valladolid last month, Cádiz have only managed a single victory on their travels so far this year.
