The dwarf planet Eris* wasn’t discovered until 2005, but its astrology seems to have been with us forever. Eris is he super dark goddess and as such shares similar astrological traits to Black Moon Lilith, which I have already studied in depth. But what makes Eris unique in her own right? What makes her more than a female version of Pluto or an outer planet version of Lilith?

Eris square Pluto It happened throughout 2020 and 2021, which is very interesting in terms of the so-called ‘The Great Reset’ and the transhumanism agenda. Note that Steve Jobs, original CEO of (forbidden fruit!) Apple, had the Moon conjunct Eris.
In myth, Eris is the Greek goddess of discord, but there are two Eris. The first Eris is the daughter of Nyx, who gave birth to a brood of nasties, including Algos (pain and sorrows) and Dysnomia (anarchy). The second Eris is the sister of the bloodthirsty Ares. So first impressions are melancholy and sadness mixed with a raging, bloody rage.
The myths of Eris
Eris, as daughter of Nyx, unleashes her strife-sired children when someone lies under oath. Eris is simply doing her job of delivering fate. As a dark goddess, she only balances the books and maintains the natural order. This Eris is about tough love and brings tough justice. The side of Eris, who is the sister of Ares, appears in the following myth.
Eris was not invited to a wedding so she threw a marked apple “To the most beautiful” at a party so that the most vain goddesses fight over her. His rage at rejection and need for vindication is what the Trojan War is attributed to. The side of her that resembles Lilith is the fact that she was the uninvited guest, the disowned and exiled, the 13th fairy who cursed Sleeping Beauty. Finally Eris, like Lilith in the Garden of Eden, caused a lot of trouble with just one apple! But we must look beyond the myths.
New tenth Planet?
Even the discovery of Eris was controversial. When Uranus was discovered, it shattered the perfectly constructed Hellenistic version of the solar system. Uranus showed that there was another dimension… It broke the mold.
Eris was quite a different story, she was discovered when it was becoming quite evident that there was now too much out there. The solar system was going rogue with new discoveries every week, so with Eris all the new bodies were packaged and categorized.
Just before Eris was about to be honored with tenth planet status, astronomers put an end to the madness and decided to demote Pluto and promote Ceres. Along with Eris, the group of three is known as dwarf plants. Neptune is now the end of the line according to school books. Thanks to Eris, the expanding solar system has paradoxically shrunk!
Like Uranus then, part of Eris’s character can be deduced from the story of her discovery. Eris opened a large, terrifying can of Centaurs, Plutinos, Cubewanos, and TNO. A goddess as an outer planet? It’s time to contain and control. Eris is left out of the group once again. This time, although she has also defeated the powerful Pluto, in fact, Eris will defeat everyone with her if she feels that she has been treated unfairly or disrespected. She exposes hypocrisy and takes an eye for an eye.

Eris is the perfect whistleblower, but there’s a touch of the prankster to Batman for her. When he finally gets his revenge, he does it in style! Eris is about poetic justice, the scene in The Godfather when the gangster wakes up in bed with the head of his favorite racehorse seems very Eris to me.
The similarities of Eris with Ereshkigal do not go unnoticed, in fact Lilith was Ereshkigal’s maiden. Eris is a militant and extravagant activist, but above all she is the warrior Queen. Think Boudicca crossed paths with Julian Assange… Eris was tentatively named Xenia after the famous TV warrior princess, played by none other than Lucy Lawless! It was known that Mike Brown, the discoverer, wanted to name it Persephone, but an asteroid has already taken that name. However, Eris retains Persephone’s characteristics, being the Queen of the Underworld/Darkness/Night and the fact that her orbit is very similar to Persephone’s.
Eris’s orbit is inclined and elliptical, where all the other planets are at the same level with each other, as can be seen in the diagram. She appears to spend half her time on the plane and half her time beneath it, just as Persephone divided her time equally between the earth and the underworld. Eris is certainly eccentric, its orbit deviating well beyond the Kuiper belt, but reaching as far as Neptune. The orbital period is painfully slow, 557 years around the Sun.
*UPDATE. This article was originally written 5 years ago. Since then, I have done a lot of research into Eris, using her in readings with clients and seeing her strong connection to the themes of Lilith and Persephone. Here is also an updated article on Eris “The Dark Goddess as Ruler” written in 2011 where I proposed that Eris should be the modern ruler of Libra (I still use traditional rulers in practice, but modern governance is important symbolically to help us better understand the outer planet). My updated Black Moon Lilith post and Ceres posts contain more depth to the Eris/Persephone archetype. Here is another post about Eris. Redivining the feminine.
