Vincent Kompany paid tribute to the “underrated” Serge Gnabry after his brace in Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Union Berlin.
Bayern maintained their nine-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a convincing victory at the Allianz Arena, where Michael Olise and Harry Kane also scored.
Gnabry, who earlier this year signed a new contract to stay with the Bavarian giants until June 2028, scored in each half to take his Bundesliga tally to eight this season.
And Kompany praised the winger.
“He’s as good as our other attackers,” he told reporters during his post-match press conference. “Honestly, I always like to speak positively about Serge, even more than about others.

“He was often injured and was out of the game, and that could have hurt his consistency a bit. But overall, he has always played for us this season, in the centre, on the left and sometimes on the right. He is a very important player for us, on the field and in the locker room.
“[His form] It doesn’t surprise me at all, but it always pleases me. Of all our guys, Serge is perhaps the one whose talent is most underrated, because he is sometimes injured and out of action. That’s why I’m always happy when Serge shows how good he is.”
Kane, who scored his 31st Bundesliga goal of the season, also praised his teammate’s performance.
“He was fantastic. I think he brought a lot of energy,” added the England captain.
“In one-on-one, he was very dangerous. He gets to dangerous areas and has a great shot. He is one of the best finishers I have played with. If you give him opportunities, he will score goals.”
“It was probably one of our best performances of the season. From start to finish, the way we moved the ball, the way we got to the second balls, kept the pace of the game high and intense.
“Our quality shone towards the end of the first half and then continued in the second half. So overall it was a very good win.”
