Women’s Day Exclusive: Sooraj Barjatya says every heroine he writes carries a part of his mother

Sooraj said, “My inspiration is my mother. A part of my mother is present in every heroine I have played. She has also in some way inspired my new heroine, Amrita from Sangamarmar. She is the source and my closest person. And then of course you see so many female characters who are very grounded. The essence of Indianness, grace and power is what defines a female character for me. The character should also be proud to be Indian.”

He further added, “Women are potential mothers too. To that extent, any sari-clad woman, being elegant and Indian, has been my strength and weakness. But this girl, Amrita, is the most ziddi girl we have ever written. She is one of the most fascinating girls. And sometimes, while writing, I wondered why Aditya (Saurabh Raaj Jain) loved her.
