An AI-powered physiotherapy clinic has expanded to 11 NHS regions to offer patients same-day back pain appointments via a smartphone app.
health flok has been rolled out to more than 2.4 million patients across 11 NHS areas including Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Airedale, South Yorkshire (Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield), Northamptonshire and three London boroughs.
In its first large-scale pilot in England last year, the clinic more than halved waiting lists for back pain and reduced waiting times for all musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions by 44% in less than 10 weeks.
Finn Stevenson, co-founder and chief executive of Flok Health, said: “It has been incredibly exciting to see such a positive response to our technology from NHS trusts and commissioners across the UK.
“We have long believed that the right technology could completely transform the way musculoskeletal care is delivered in the UK, transforming the lives of millions of patients and generating significant cost savings for the NHS.
“We are currently the only digital physiotherapy provider in the UK with the necessary regulatory approvals to immediately meet NHS England’s target of rolling out digital solutions at pace to meet demand for MSK services.
“Our goal is to continue providing gold-standard MSK care on a population scale, allowing patients to access care immediately, while freeing up clinical capacity for patients who want or need to see a doctor face-to-face.”
The AI service manages patients on behalf of the NHS from presentation and initial assessment to treatment delivery and discharge, and records all interactions and outcomes in the patient’s electronic health record.
Flok Health’s expansion follows the publication of NHS England’s medium-term planning framework in October 2025, which provided guidance to NHS trusts to consider where digital solutions could be implemented at pace with appropriate regulatory approval.
A few weeks before the guidance was published, Flok Health obtained Class IIa medical device approval under EU regulations, meaning it can make diagnostic decisions without human supervision.
Matthew Winn, chief executive of Cambridge Community Services NHS Trust and Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust, said: “It has been fantastic to see the impact the Flok Health pilot has had for our patients and staff.
“Thousands more people are getting quicker access to expert physiotherapy support, waiting lists have been reduced by more than half and our clinical teams have more time to focus on those with complex needs.
“It is exciting to see how an innovation like this, introduced safely and carefully, can truly transform the way we deliver care.
“We now look forward to rolling out Flok more widely across the trust so that even more people can benefit from faster, high-quality MSK support closer to home.”
According to Flok Health data, patients treated with the solution have seen an average improvement in MSK-HQ Score of 6.16 points, considering any value greater than 5 statistically and clinically significant.
