Digital health company Eolas Medical has raised $12m (£8.9m) to expand its insights platform for clinical decision-making.

The Series A funding, led by Acton Capital, will drive the company’s growth in the UK and Ireland, as well as supporting the international expansion of its point-of-care insight tools.

Eolas web and mobile applications aim to replace fragmented intranets and document stores with a single source of truth, giving physicians access to approved local guidance, policies and medication information.

Declan Kelly, Founder and CEO of Eolas Doctorsaid: “Eolas has always been focused on solving a very practical problem: providing healthcare professionals with fast, reliable access to the knowledge they need, when they need it.

“This is especially important in acute settings, where staff are under pressure to make decisions quickly and safely, especially in winter.

“As AI develops, the next phase is to make that access even more usable, so staff can ask a question and get a clear answer, backed by evidence, immediately and in plain language.

“We are delighted that our investment partners recognize the importance of our bespoke AI insight tool, so we can build on what is already working across the NHS and support organizations as pressure on services increases and care continues to move beyond traditional hospital settings.”

The Eolas platform includes a new AI-powered search that allows staff to ask questions and receive results from their organization’s internal resources, accelerating decisions without compromising governance or clinical oversight.

Elisha Zafar, specialist infection pharmacist at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which uses the platform, said: “Working in infections at King’s means dealing with everything from the most routine to the most complex cases, across a hugely diverse patient population.

“We are juggling huge workloads all the time, so being able to get the right information quickly makes a real difference to the way we work.

“The search feature is the biggest benefit. You type a few letters and search all the guidelines using the keywords we’ve built in. It’s really easy to find what you need.

“At the moment we are using it for all our infection guidelines. The trust has seen how well it has worked for us, so we are now bringing in more guidelines and phasing out the old King’s guideline system.

“As most other trusts host their guidelines at Eolas, this allows us to see how practice is approached in different organisations, particularly in specialist centers or those with a similar patient cohort to ours.”

Eolas is integrated into over 400 UK clinical sites and is used by 85% of NHS acute trusts.

Fritz Oidtmann, managing partner of Acton Capitalsaid: “Our conversations with doctors showed remarkable enthusiasm for Eolas.

“Doctors love the product. The benefit is immediate, the value is clear, and this conviction and its unique positioning in the market strongly shaped our enthusiasm for partnering with Eolas Medical.”
