Power batsmen have become the heart of T20I cricket, reshaping the way teams plan chases, set totals and dictate momentum. A single over full of sixes can turn a match on its head, forcing players into defensive lines and captains into reactive field positions. From fearless openers to middle-order performers, the six-hitter has evolved from an additional skill to a primary weapon in the shortest format. But while consistently removing the strings is impressive, the thought of reaching the milestone of 1,000 sixes in international T20 tournaments seems almost unreal.

In franchise cricket, legends have crossed those boundaries. Chris Gayle He is famous for smashing 1,056 sixes in 463 T20 matches around the world. Replicating something similar in international cricket, with fewer matches and tougher bowling attacks, is a completely different challenge. However, the former India player Harbhajan Singh believes a young Indian batsman has the mindset and firepower to make the impossible look possible.

Harbhajan Singh’s bold prediction about a future six-hit machine

Speaking on Star Sports, Harbhajan did not shy away from making a surprising prediction. He stated that Abhishek Sharma gets a career as long as modern Indian greats, the six-hit numbers could skyrocket. According to Harbhajan, longevity will be the key. He noted that the players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli they have played over a hundred T20Is, giving them the platform to build monumental records. If Abhishek gets the same opportunity, Harbhajan feels that the 1,000 sixes mark is not just a fantasy but a realistic target.

“If Abhishek Sharma plays as many T20I matches as Rohit Sharma, he will have 1,000 sixes to his name.” Harbhjan said on Star Sports.

Young star earns high praise from Harbhajan for brave approach in T20Is

Harbhajan’s comments followed an impressive performance by Abhishek in the inaugural T20I between India and New Zealand. Batting with freedom and intent, Abhishek scored an impressive 84, punctuated with eight towering sixes, instantly putting the visitors under pressure.

What impressed Harbhajan the most was not just the clean hitting but the mentality behind it. He revealed that Abhishek had the opportunity to stop and press for a century but decided to stay true to his attacking role for the team. That selflessness, according to Harbhajan, separates good players from those who win games.

“Abhishek Sharma could have easily scored a century, but he didn’t. He said he would continue batting with the same explosive style, even if it meant going out. That’s the difference in mentality. It’s a huge thing that he didn’t think about himself and instead thought about the team. The way he bats now, every time he scores 50 runs, team India wins. He is a superstar, and the bowlers have no answer against him.” Bhajji said on his YouTube channel.

The numbers already hint at something special. Despite playing just 33 T20Is, Abhishek has 81 sixes to his name, an extraordinary strike rate compared to established stars. To put it in context, Rohit leads India’s six-hitter with 205, followed by Suryakumar Yadav (156) and Kohli (124).
