Yoane Wissa has promised Newcastle United fans that the best is yet to come after an injury-hit start to his career at St. James Park.
Wissa joined Newcastle in the summer for a £50m transfer fee from Brentford after scoring 19 Premier League goals for the Bees in 2024-25.
The 29-year-old was brought in, along with Nick Woltemade, to fill the void left by Alexander Isak, who moved to Liverpool on a British record deal.
However, the DR Congo international suffered a knee injury just days after signing, keeping him out for the first three months of the 2025-26 campaign.
Wissa scored his first goals for the Magpies during the 2-1 win over Fulham in the EFL Cup quarter-finals, and is confident it will be the first of many for his new club.
“There will surely be more to come. As I said, I’m not at a perfect peak yet. It will take a few weeks to reach it and I know I have a step to achieve,” Wissa told Sky Sports.
“But I know who I am. I’m a hard worker. I love playing football. And yes, I hope to score a lot of goals here. And I know I’m not 100%, but I’m sure there will be more to come.”
“I hope to score a lot of goals, a lot of assists and a lot of wins. This is what we need now. We need a big push now that the season is getting harder and harder.

“We need a big push and, for me, a lot of goals and happy moments. This is just what I need now.
“[Start to life in Newcastle] It’s been strange, but it’s my destiny. But like I said, I’m glad I had this moment when I was injured because I was able to take the time to settle down here with my family.
“But it’s been frustrating, especially the last four weeks at the end of rehab, because I really want to be at this club.
“But I think we timed it perfectly and came back stronger.”
Wissa decided not to join the Democratic Republic of the Congo for their Africa Cup of Nations campaign as he aims to regain fitness for Eddie Howe’s side.
Newcastle face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, and Wissa has scored just once in his eight Premier League appearances against the Red Devils.
The Magpies sit 11th in the Premier League standings but know a win against Ruben Amorim’s side could put them within three points of the top four.
Newcastle achieved the league double over United last season, including a 2-0 victory in this same fixture.
However, they have failed to win consecutive visits to Old Trafford since March 1935, while the last time they won three in a row against the Red Devils was in January 1922.
