Victory and togetherness: Danny Rohl presents the Rangers’ mission plan

Rohl gave an insight into his tactical approach, as the Rangers have struggled in defense this season and have also been forceful in attack.

“My focus is on myself, what I can contribute to this football club,” said the former Sheffield Wednesday manager. “I see a lot of potential.

“My football, what I want to see on the field is intensity, it is speed, it is unity and a forward style of play because we want to create opportunities, we want to create goals.

“We have to accelerate our game. We want to attack the last line. If we do it again, we will create more moments and have more goals.

“We have to defend much, much better as a group, as a unit, with a lot of aggression in duels.

“We have to press well, we have to hunt, we have to counterattack and we have to play with intensity, and it all starts from the striker to the defender. If you do it as a unit, then it is very difficult to beat us and take us down.

“At first you have to win games, then you can talk about playing attractive football. We need consecutive victories. With consecutive victories, you can build self-confidence and absolute confidence.”

Last week, Rohl appeared to be out of the running to join Rangers, shortly after former Ibrox manager and former England captain Steven Gerrard also pulled out of the recruitment process.

Kevin Muscat appeared to be the favourite, but prospects of a deal for the Australian collapsed on Sunday, at which point Rohl returned to the fray.

Rohl described the meetings with the Rangers hierarchy as “excellent” and said he “never stopped communicating.”

“There was immediately a great relationship between all of us in the meetings,” he said. “I felt the confidence.

“You can be the first, the second or the third option. It is important that you win the next games. I can’t tell you which option, I can only tell you that I am here and that makes me believe that I was the first option.”
