Forget cities, Americans are heading to the suburbs.
In late September, moveBuddha, a website dedicated to relocation, released its top suburbs to move to this fall, after finding in its 2025 moving survey that one third of Americans I want to move to the suburbs this year. The team said it wanted to find places where movers “could find more square footage, a large yard, better schools, and ultimately more room to stretch out.” However, he added, not all suburbs are the same.”
To determine the best places to consider for a new suburban home, the team dug into their proprietary search data from their Moving Cost Calculator to find out which suburbs are the most in-demand to move to this year.
“These major suburbs have the highest proportion of intra- and inter-city moving searches in their metropolitan area (and excluding the major metro city),” the website explained. “Our final data set highlights 81 suburbs for which there was sufficient search data.”
After looking at all the statistics, he named Wake Forest in North Carolina as the number one spot.
“This once rural outpost, including its charming red brick center, was once considered far from the hustle and bustle of the ‘Triangle,'” the findings stated. “That’s no longer the case. Wake Forest, located less than 12 miles from Raleigh, is capitalizing on a decade of popularity with the strongest moving-in interest of any suburb: 2.64 moving-in searches for every searcher looking to leave.”
But all this attention comes with a downside: an increase in prices. According to the website, the average home in Wake Forest now costs 58 percent more than the average home in North Carolina.
Eagle, Idaho, is close behind with an input ratio of 2.78, followed by Maryville, Tennessee, with 2.58. However, two states in particular dominated this list: South Carolina and Texas took three spots each.
“The popularity of suburban South Carolina and Texas is part of a broader trend in which southern states dominate interest in the movement,” the findings stated. “In addition, popular locations like Boerne, Texas, and Greer, South Carolina, are located near the edges of our 30-mile suburban boundary, suggesting that movers may be looking for additional space, even while staying within commuting distance of a larger meter.”
While these are the most attractive suburbs to move to right now, moveBuddha noted that they are not necessarily the most affordable. In fact, it created a whole new list just for that, with Springfield, Ohio, being the most affordable in the country. Here, potential buyers will find a median home price of just $187,200.
