Tax and Pricing Updates for Apps, In-App Purchases and Subscriptions – Latest News

The App Store is designed to make it easy to sell your digital goods and services globally, with support for 44 currencies in 175 stores.

From time to time, we may need to adjust prices or your revenue due to changes in tax regulations or exchange rates. These adjustments are made using publicly available exchange rate information from financial data providers to help ensure that prices for apps and in-app purchases remain consistent across stores.

Tax and pricing updates for February

Starting February 6:

Your revenue from the sale of eligible apps and in-app purchases changed to:

  • Azerbaijan: introduction of 18% value added tax (VAT)
  • Peru: introduction of 18% VAT
  • Slovakia: Increase in normal VAT rate from 20% to 23%
  • Slovakia: Introduction of reduced VAT rate of 5% for e-books
  • Estonia: reduced VAT rate increase from 5% to 9% for news publications, magazines and other periodicals
  • Finland: VAT rate increase reduced from 10% to 14% for e-books

Schedule B of the Paid Apps Agreement has been updated to indicate that Apple collects and remits applicable taxes in Azerbaijan and Peru.¹

As of February 24:

Prices for apps and in-app purchases will be updated for stores in Azerbaijan and Peru if you have not selected one of them as the basis for your app or in-app purchase². These updates also consider the VAT introductions listed in the tax updates section above.

If you selected the Azerbaijan or Peru store as the base for your app or in-app purchase, prices will not change. In other stores, prices will be updated to remain consistent with the chosen base price.

Prices will not change in any region if your in-app purchase is an automatically renewable subscription. Prices will also not change in stores where you manage prices manually instead of using automated price matching.

The App Pricing and Availability section has been updated in App Store Connection to show these upcoming price changes. As always, you can change the prices of your apps, in-app purchases, and automatically renewable subscriptions at any time.

Starting April 1:

As a result of last year change in Japan tax regulationsApple (via iTunes KK in Japan) is now designated as a Specified Platform Operator by Japan’s tax authority. All paid apps and in-app purchases (including in-game items such as currencies) sold by developers outside of Japan on the Japan App Store will be subject to the platform’s tax regime. Apple will collect and remit a 10% Japanese Consumption Tax (JCT) to the JAPAN National Tax Agency on such transactions at the time of purchase. Your income will be adjusted accordingly.

Please note that any prepaid payment instruments (such as coins) sold before April 1, 2025 will not be subject to platform taxes and the developer must continue to manage relevant JCT compliance.

For specific information on how the JCT affects game elements, please refer to question 7 from the Japan Revenue Agency. Questions and answers on platform taxation of consumption tax.
