Rohan Bopanna has drawn the curtain on his career as the Indian tennis player announced on November 1, 2025 that he will retire from professional sports. He has now closed the chapter on his remarkable career, which spanned more than two decades. Rohan has been one of India’s greatest tennis players and much of the credit for his legacy goes to his wife, Supriya Annaiah Bopanna.
Behind the high-pressure moments Rohan faced during the 2017 French Open and while winning multiple Davis Cups at the Olympics, his wife Supriya showed a lot of support. While on the field Rohan achieved record victories, which was only possible thanks to his real-life base, Supriya. The couple has had an interesting love story, one that goes beyond what is shown as Rohan’s life on the tennis court.

Rohan has shared in many of his press interviews that he met his wife, Supriya, by chance at a restaurant. When he saw her for the first time, Rohan was impressed by her grace, charm and beauty, and asked his cousin, their common friend, to introduce him to her. The couple dated briefly; Shortly after falling in love in 2012, they married. Rohan and Supriya are blessed to have a daughter whom they named Tridha Bopanna.

Rohan, in his heartfelt retirement post on Instagram, began by saying that he didn’t know how to say goodbye to the sport that gave meaning to his life. He did share that, after 20 unforgettable years, he is now officially hanging up his racket. His heart has been heavy and grateful, but he gave credit to his wife, Supriya, calling her his best partner off the court. Rohan credited Supriya for living her tennis journey with her and wrote:
“You have lived this journey with me, the long flights, the sleepless nights and the moments I missed. You have carried our world with such grace while I pursued mine. Your love, patience and strength are the silent reasons behind every success I have had.”

Supriya was there for Rohan when he was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2019. For the unversed, Supriya is a psychologist and has always provided Rohan with positive reinforcement in all areas of his life. Supriya has been the director of the Rohan Bopanna Tennis Development Foundation, which is supported by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and caters for proper tennis development of underprivileged children.

Rohan has stated in many of his press interviews that he met Supriya through a mutual connection. He shared how she knows how to deal with the pressures of the sport and has also supported him in his career choices and work schedule, which has been demanding in the past. Speaking highly of his wife, Rohan shared how she knows how to give him space when he needs it and shared:
“She keeps me grounded and knows exactly when I need my own space. She respects my priorities and allows me to manage them the way I’m used to.”

Rohan Bopanna shares that he wanted to retire earlier as he didn’t win matches for 5 months but Supriya remained like a rock.
Rohan, after the 2024 Australian Open, said he wanted to retire from tennis before. There was a time when I was struggling a lot because I hadn’t won a single match for about 5 months. He had experienced a series of losses, but credited his wife, Supriya, and daughter, Tridha, for their unwavering support. Rohan had shared:
“My beautiful wife, Supriya, and my daughter, Tridha… thank you for all the support, all the love. I know a couple of years ago I sent her a video message and said, ‘I’m calling it a day.’ Because I wasn’t winning any matches. I went 5 months without winning a match. I thought that would be the end of my journey. The perseverance within me just kept me going. I really changed a lot of things and found a wonderful partner.”

Rohan has always given credit to Supriya, who supported her during her difficult times. Earlier, in a press interview, he had revealed that his wife Supriya always told him to convert limitations into opportunities, which brings significant changes in a person’s life. This could happen at the age of 25, 30 or even 40 years. For Rohan, his second Grand Slam success came at the age of 43, and he credited his wife, Supriya, for it. Rohan also shared that he was told this in sports, in life, in marriage, and while having children. Rohan and Supriya had a traditional Koidava wedding after dating for a year. Rohan and Supriya’s wedding was an ode to the Coorg heritage as Rohan’s roots are there and their intimate and private wedding reflected the core values they shared.
