A pilot miraculously escaped a crashed small plane at Adelaide’s Parafield Airport.
The plane, identified as a Cessna 172, sparked a grass fire in the crash around 12:30 on Monday, December 5, leading to dramatic photos and videos on social media. The pilot was unharmed, according to authorities.

“The plane is believed to have landed hard and caught fire after impact. The fire spread to nearby grass, however it has since been extinguished,” South African police said in a statement.
“No other aircraft were involved. The pilot, the sole occupant of the plane, was not injured. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating.”
A spokesperson for Parafield confirmed that the airport is “assisting emergency services, including South African Police and the MFS, following the crash of a single aircraft at the airport this afternoon.”
“Parafield Airport will also assist the Australian Transport Safety Bureau with any investigation into the incident,” the spokesperson said.
The ATSB says it is gathering information before making an investigative decision.
