Owen appointed new corporate development director of the HAECO group

The HAECO Group has appointed Tom Owen as its group corporate development director, with responsibility for shaping HAECO’s strategic direction, leading information technology and digital transformation, while advancing the group’s sustainability commitments.

Owen will also cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including joint ventures and government partners to reinforce HAECO’s position as a leading global provider of MRO services.

Owen succeeds Summit Chan, who retired in December 2025 and who was instrumental in enhancing HAECO’s technological and sustainability capabilities, overseeing initiatives such as drone-assisted inspections and autonomous robots, as well as launching Hong Kong’s largest single-site solar panel project.

Owen brings 30 years of aviation and leadership experience, including sales, revenue management, logistics and regional oversight, both in Hong Kong and overseas, especially at Cathay.

Richard Sell, chief executive of HAECO Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tom to HAECO as a vital member of the group’s leadership team.

“His extensive industry experience and global perspectives will be invaluable to HAECO as we expand our presence in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other strategic markets.

“With his proven leadership experience, Tom is well equipped to drive sustainable growth for the HAECO Group.”

Owen joined the Swire Group in 1995 and has built a successful career primarily at Cathay, covering areas such as marketing, sales and distribution, network revenue management and regional leadership across several markets including Korea, Canada, the US and South Asia.

In 2015 he was appointed chief people officer, where he led the comprehensive modernization of the Cathay Group’s HR functions. In 2020, he took on the role of Cargo Director, during which he drove the Cathay Cargo business to achieve record financial and operational results while making significant progress in digital capabilities.
