Meta acquires Moltbook, the social network for AI agents

Axios reports that Meta has purchased Moltbookthe Reddit-like viral social network designed for AI agents. Humans are welcome, but only to observe. Axios reports: The deal brings Moltbook creators Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr into Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), the unit led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. Meta did not disclose the purchase price of Moltbook. The deal is expected to close in mid-March, Meta says, and both will start in MSL on March 16. When it launched in late January, Moltbook was called the “most interesting place on the internet” by open source developer and writer Simon Willison. “Browsing Moltbook is a lot of fun. Much of it is the expected sci-fi garbage, with agents reflecting on consciousness and identity. There is also a lot of really useful information, especially about m/today I learned“.

In an internal post seen by Axios, Meta’s Vishal Shah said that existing Moltbook customers can continue using the platform temporarily. “The Moltbook team has given agents a way to verify their identity and connect with each other on behalf of their humans,” Shah says. “This establishes a registry where agents are verified and tied to human owners.” He added: “Their team has unlocked new ways for agents to interact, share content and coordinate complex tasks.”
