Manchester City were ready to put pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race as Antoine Semenyo continued his excellent form against Fulham with a dominant first-half performance against the Cottagers.
City went into Wednesday’s clash knowing that they could cuts the difference with leaders Arsenal to three points ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Brentford on Thursday.
The hosts had previously won their last 19 meetings against Fulham in all competitions, the longest winning streak any team has had against another in the history of English football.
And that record looked set to expand to 20 thanks to Semenyo’s brilliance.
Manchester City takes control
The Ghanaian international had already scored five goals against Fulham in his Premier League career with Bournemouth, and broke the deadlock with his sixth by scoring the opener in the 24th minute.
Semenyo then gave Fulham a mountain to climb when he provided the assist at the end of a fluid City move to make it 2-0, Nico O’Reilly doubling the lead with a magnificent lofted finish over Bernd Leno.
Erling Haaland then seemingly put the game beyond doubt with an unerring finish into the bottom right corner, scoring his eighth goal in as many Premier League games against the west Londoners.
