Karisma Kapoor’s bottle green kurta set is based on antique gold dori work

For a recent appearance, Karisma Kapoor chose an emerald green kurta from Jigar Mali that placed craftsmanship at the center. Styled by Esha Amin Pradhan, the look brought together Chanderi silk, antique gold embroidery and emerald-set jewelery in a combination that looked formal, familiar and very much in tune with Kapoor’s long-standing taste for traditional wear for special occasions.

The kurta followed a classic A-line silhouette with full sleeves and its neckline featured a considered mix of V and square design. It leaned heavily on traditional craftsmanship, with its intricate surface work with antique gold dori and gold embroidery. Dori, the traditional embellishment technique using cord or thick thread, creates textured embossed patterns on fabric. In this look, dori work interspersed with hand embroidery gave an almost three-dimensional effect of floral and paisley motifs. Her ensemble was paired with an organza dupatta, which introduced a sheer, billowing counterpoint to the rich look. The dupatta and palazzo were also elevated with the same surface ornamentation as the kurta.

Kapoor paired the ensemble with a statement gulband choker in antique gold, set with emerald drops from Kalyan Jewelers. The matching earrings followed the same design. Her makeup stayed within a warm palette, with contoured skin, blush, copper-toned eye shadow, mascara, and nude lips. Her hair was styled in a sleek braided bun, while gold Fizzy Goblet juttis went along with the rest of the look.

Chanderi silk and organza, both prized for their airy finish, make Kapoor’s kurta set a good choice for summer celebrations. The bottle green color also gives it flexibility, making it easy to wear from a daytime function to an evening meeting.
