WellTheory and Instacart Partner to Expand Access to Food as Medicine for Autoimmune Patients
Autoimmune patients often struggle to access foods that support healing, facing barriers such as affordability, availability, and the daily challenge of translating nutritional advice into practical meal planning. A new partnership between WellTheory and Instacart aims to close this gap, advancing WellTheory’s mission to provide comprehensive, root-cause care that extends beyond the boundaries of traditional healthcare.
Through Instacart Health Fresh Funds, approximately 300,000 people in WellTheory’s network will now receive grocery stipends that can be redeemed for clinically recommended foods at their favorite local grocery stores. Instacart’s reach extends to more than 98% of U.S. households, including 95% of those in food deserts and 98% of households enrolled in SNAP, ensuring broad, stigma-free access to healthy food options and empowering patients to integrate nutrition into their daily routines.
“Nutrition is at the core of WellTheory’s mission to reverse the autoimmune epidemic, but patients face real barriers to translating clinical nutritional guidelines into their daily lives,” said Claire Rudolph, co-founder and chief product officer of WellTheory. “Our partnership with Instacart removes these barriers, making it easier for our members to follow evidence-based dietary protocols and truly nourish their healing processes.”
Unlike conventional models focused on symptom management, WellTheory’s proprietary care program focuses on the underlying causes of autoimmunity through nutrition, lifestyle modification, and sustained personalized support from registered dietitians and certified health coaches.
By integrating Instacart’s platform, Fresh Funds helps transform nutritional guidance into actionable daily choices, improving symptom management, improving quality of life, and reducing healthcare costs. The initiative builds on WellTheory’s demonstrated success in improving autoimmune outcomes through its food-first approach, as outlined in its latest impact report. WellTheory continues to expand its reach by partnering with leading employers and health plans like Maven Clinic and Sentara to provide scalable, virtual autoimmune care that reaches patients wherever they are.
