Google Theme Packs Almost Ready for One-Touch Pixel Styling

Pixel phones may receive theme packs and prioritized notifications in a future Pixel Drop, and Google is launching a new app ahead of time. Theme packs were already in the works at the beginning of October, when Android Authority managed to get a new “Themes” entry to appear in the Settings app on Google Pixel phones. Now, Google has published a new “Theme Packs” app on the Google Play Store, exclusively for Pixels.

Theme packs will allow you to “personalize your Pixel with a single touch,” according to the Play Store Listing. “Instantly unlock a full update that refreshes your wallpaper, icons, sounds, GIFs and more with seasonal theme packs.”

The first collection of seasonal themed packs is based on Wicked: For Good! movie, and there are three packages to choose from. Each of the “For Good,” “Glinda,” and “Elphaba” packs will automatically adjust your Pixel’s style and wallpaper settings to match their theme.

The Theme Packs app is available to download from the Google Play Store starting November 4. That’s the same date that was leaked for the release of Pixel Drop, but the update hasn’t rolled out yet and we don’t know exactly when it will arrive. While users can download and view theme packs, the app will not work until Google releases an update.

In fact, Theme Packs is a system application without a separate user interface. A later update will add theme packs as a tab within the Wallpaper & Style page in the Settings app. For now, there is no way to open or access the theme packs app, even if Pixel users install it.

The theme packs icon is a collection of sample cards in basic colors on a purple background, plus the glitter often used for AI features. Evil: Forever! will be the first and only theme pack available when the theme packs are fully released, but Google’s Play Store listing reveals that future packs will be released seasonally.
