Generation Z, born around 1997 to 2010, is facing corrupt governments in Kenya, Nepal, Madagascar and elsewhere with angry street protests underway.
That generation coincides with Pluto in Sagittarius from the mid-1990s to 2009, now in their teens and early 30s. Sagittarius is an idealistic and knowledgeable sign that cares about the larger social order and has no patience for hypocrisy and injustice. Outspoken and impulsive, he rarely stays silent when feeling overwhelmed or repressed.
Add Pluto to the mix and attitudes become intense. When religion is involved, some become fanatics and try to impose their views on others; hence the rise of Al Quaeda during those years. But it also had the opposite effect of promoting globalization, multiculturalism and cross-border travel. Whichever end of the spectrum you live on, there are bound to be arguments, fueled by deeply held attitudes and opinions.
Along the way, Pluto opposed Saturn in Gemini, from 2001 to 2003, (members of Generation Z are now in their early 20s), producing stubborn personalities, accustomed to hardship and well-built to withstand pressure. Beginning in 2003, Uranus entered Pisces, never reaching a square to Pluto in Sagittarius, but it is possible that a budding revolutionary spirit was felt there.
2005 (Gen Z is now 20 years old) had Saturn in Leo opposing Neptune in Aquarius for the dream of a better society; with Saturn trine Pluto strengthening determination.
Pluto in Capricorn (2008 to 2023), with its emphasis on the old order, would breed resentment and Pluto now in Aquarius for the next two decades may be the place where that spreads openly with demands for governments based on decency and equality.
Kenya: See previous post Generation Z Kenya: rebelling against politicians. July 15, 2024.
“A plague in all their homes” seems to be the apolitical attitude of young Kenyans, eloquent and educated, who organize demonstrations against corruption, injustice and inequality in an interested political class that they denounce in all areas. The GenZ movement, as they are known, which claims no political or tribal allegiance and organizes its protests through social media platforms, has been compared to the Arab Spring uprisings. With the economic situation deteriorating, they have been expressing their discontent over the luxurious lifestyles enjoyed by politicians financed by citizens’ taxes.
Generation Z is currently estimated to be the largest in Africa, making up 31.20%. Millennials represent 20.49%. Both generations represent 51.69%.”
In Nepal, the protests have much the same goal: corruption and a draconian ban on social media. The Generation Z demonstration toppled the government in one day and dissolved parliament with a new hardline anti-corruption interim prime minister.
Many young people say they simply wanted to raise their voices against corruption and that they never intended to achieve complete regime change, let alone be tasked with deciding the next prime minister and the future of the country. Their movement had no single leader, no manifesto or singular set of demands, and largely remains so.
In Madagascar, rubber bullets and tear gas were fired at the latest protest led by young people known as Generation Z Mada, who want to oust the president from power with complaints about persistent energy and water shortages, and broader dissatisfaction with corruption, high unemployment and the cost of living crisis.
Madagascar, June 26, 1960, will be in crisis for several years with Neptune Saturn square the Sun Venus in 20926 and a turbulent Uranus square Pluto; a Pluto stuck square Mars and then square a confused Neptune until 2027/8.
Similarly, Nepal, on May 29, 1991, will be in internal struggle until 2026, with tough fighting and surprises until 2027/28.
If there is a pattern, it would be against politicians of all stripes, which is very similar in the West, and against financial inequality/corruption, which is a red flag for Pluto in Aquarius. There is no Uranus opposition to Pluto ahead as there was during the French Revolution in 1790, although the undercurrent may be similar to Pluto in Aquarius’ drive for social enlightenment and equality.
But where is Generation Z in the US, Europe and the UK?
