Geisha Girl: My modern look inspired by Geishas | The daily shopaholics
Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is staying safe and at home during this pandemic.

Here in Tokyo, things are a little better since the government lifted the emergency, and after a long time I decided to go out to photograph my outfit, all thanks to Tokyo Survival Channel, who challenged me to explore the fascinating world of Geisha in Japan and transform into a Geisha-inspired look.

While sharing the full experience in the #TokyoChallenge blog, I thought I would share some photos and how I came up with this outfit, with my dear readers too.

The designer sent me this stunning Kanji dress. Keiko Tagai who is a self-taught designer who specializes in suits that combine rich Japanese culture and modern trends. This two-way poncho dress features stunning hand-drawn artwork by ink painting artist 月与志 (Tsuyoshi) and has an empowering kanji that represents feminine strength and functionality.

Its beautiful sleeves can be worn poncho style or sleeveless, and can be styled in more than one way.

I decided to pair this beautiful dress with a tiered black skirt from ZARA that adds volume to the look and added a belt to cinch the waist.

Kimono dress, mini beret: Keiko Tagai
Skirt: Zara
Heels: Charles and Keith
Belt: Flea Market, Mumbai
Fan: from a store in China.

I accessorized the outfit with a mini beret that is also designed by Keiko Tagai and features this stunning floral print that instantly brightens the outfit. I added a little Indian element to the look with my lotus drop earrings and finished the look with my favorite black heels from Charles & Keith.

Also, my hand fan that I bought in China came in handy (and I finally used it) to add another Geisha element to this look.

What do you think of this look? Have you had a real life encounter with a Geisha before?

Tell me your experience in the comments below!

Ending the post with this beautiful quote from Arthur Golden:

“She paints her face to hide it. Her eyes are deep water. It is not for Geishas to want. It is not for Geishas to feel. Geisha is an artist of the floating world. She dances, she sings. She entertains you, whatever you want. The rest are shadows, the rest is secret.”
