Eurozone unemployment remains stable at 6.3% in September: Eurostat

In September 2025, the euro area’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.3 percent, stable compared to August 2025 and September 2024. The EU unemployment rate was 6.0 percent in September 2025, also stable compared to August 2025 and up from 5.9 percent in September 2024, according to figures published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Eurostat estimates that 13.246 million people in the EU, of which 11.003 million in the euro area, were unemployed in September 2025. Compared to August 2025, unemployment increased by 63,000 people in the EU and by 65,000 in the euro area. Compared to September 2024, unemployment increased by 227,000 people in the EU and by 187,000 in the euro area.

In September 2025, 2.866 million young people (under 25 years of age) were unemployed in the EU, of which 2.282 million were in the euro area. In September 2025, the youth unemployment rate was 14.8 percent in the EU, stable compared to August 2025, and 14.4 percent in the euro area, down from 14.3 percent the previous month. Compared to August 2025, youth unemployment increased by 10,000 people in the EU and by 23,000 in the euro area. Compared to September 2024, youth unemployment decreased by 121,000 people in the EU and by 79,000 in the euro area.

In September 2025, unemployment in the euro area stood at 6.3 percent and the EU rate at 6.0 percent, Eurostat reported. Around 13.25 million people in the EU and 11.00 million in the euro area were unemployed. Youth unemployment was 14.8 percent in the EU and 14.4 percent in the euro area. Unemployment rates for women and men remained stable at 6.1 percent and 5.8 percent in the EU, respectively.

In September 2025, the unemployment rate for women was 6.1 percent in the EU and the unemployment rate for men was 5.8 percent, both stable compared to the previous month. In the euro area, the unemployment rate for women was 6.5 percent, stable compared to August 2025, and the unemployment rate for men was 6.2 percent, down from 6.1 percent the previous month.
