Alien enthusiasts have been left searching for answers after a bright object was captured on camera apparently floating above the active Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico.
Sci-fi fans were left scratching their heads after footage was spotted of what appears to be a UFO hovering around an active volcano.
Webcam video shows the eerie bright object hovering above the Popocatépetl crater in the Mexican states of Puebla and Morelos before suddenly shooting off at high speeds. The supposed flying saucer appeared to be surveying the smoking crater as smoke and flames leapt into the air. The strange phenomenon was captured by surveillance cameras at the bottom of the volcano last Thursday.
Popocatépetl is located at an altitude of 5,426 meters (17,802 feet) and is one of the most active volcanoes in the country. So far, local authorities have not issued a statement about the origin of the mysterious flying object.

The National Center for Disaster Prevention reported 19 low-intensity eruptions accompanied by steam, gases and small amounts of ash during the day in question. They asked the public to stay away from the crater and respect the 12 kilometer exclusion zone.
Last year, UFO expert Jaime Maussan claimed that Popocatépetl is acting as an “interdimensional portal,” a door in space-time that allows intergalactic travelers to enter one place from another.
The 72-year-old shared his belief that no man-made object could enter a volcano due to temperatures reaching around 1,000 degrees Celsius, What’s the Jam reported.
Maussan said: “The University of Bergen in Norway discovered that beneath the volcano there are magnetic storms necessary to be able to generate X points – or electron diffusion regions – and be used to create a Dimensional Portal.”
The X points are places where the Earth’s magnetic field connects with the Sun’s magnetic field, creating a path from our own planet to the Sun’s atmosphere, 150 million kilometers away. They are known as X points because the Sun’s magnetic force intertwines with that of the Earth, creating an X shape.
Elsewhere, alien enthusiasts have claimed the government is covering up the matter following an accident at Area 51 that sparked a military investigation and weeks of speculation.
The September 23 incident saw an unidentified plane crash on public lands outside the classified government facility in Groom Lake, Nevada. Creech Air Force Base confirmed early on that the crash was the result of a mishap involving an aircraft assigned to the building’s 432nd Wing, which houses unmanned aerial vehicles.
While an internal investigation has since been opened and closed, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the FBI have launched a joint investigation that has fueled speculation among UFO fans, who have criticized the new security measures as “absolutely false.”
Local outlet KLAS-TV reported that the FAA confirmed issuing a temporary flight restriction covering a five-mile stretch east of Area 51 “for national security reasons” on the day of the crash, but other details of the incident have been largely kept secret. The restriction remained in effect until October 1, covering an area near the infamous Extraterrestrial Highway.
