Daughter discovers she’s been living a lie when three strangers arrive at her father’s funeral

A grieving daughter at her father’s funeral says she was approached by a woman, who was with two teenagers, and told her that she, too, had been with her father “for 15 years.”

A woman was shocked to discover at her father’s funeral that he had been living “a double life” with another partner for 15 years.

The anonymous woman said three unknown people attended her father’s funeral after his death at age 62. He had lived a normal life, at least the daughter thought, with his wife, her mother, with whom he had been in a relationship since his teenage years. And then everything she knew about him was shattered when the woman who arrived at the service accompanied by two teenagers told her they should talk.

And then the stranger allegedly said, “I’m Denise. I was with your dad for 15 years.” At first, the daughter suspected the woman was cheating on her, but when she showed a photo of her father at birthday, Christmas and holiday celebrations, she couldn’t question the evidence.

She wrote on Reddit: “She said he had told her that my mom had passed away years ago. He had been living a double life for almost two decades, splitting time between ‘work trips’ that were actually weekends with her. My mom’s entire face scrunched up when I told her. They had just celebrated their 40th anniversary.”

Now, both sides of her father’s family are dealing with the emotional fallout of this shocking revelation, as neither knew about the other until after his death. As they deal with the loss of the man they thought they knew, they also come to terms with the secrets he left behind.

The woman continued: “Now we’re dealing with the emotional fallout, two families mourning the same man, realizing he wasn’t the person we thought he was. I keep wondering how many birthdays and holidays he spent running between us, pretending he was late because of traffic.”

Readers of the post were stunned by the family drama in which the woman, unknowingly, found herself involved. Many expressed condolences for his loss, both for his father’s death and for the “illusion he had built,” the newspaper reported. Daily record.

One person commented: “Double life, double pain. You’re mourning the man who raised you and the illusion he built. That’s the worst kind of loss, when even your memories seem like lies.”

Another added: “I’m so sorry. All I can think is that therapy would be good, and maybe the brothers at least wouldn’t hate each other. It’s tremendously difficult to deal with a death plus betrayal.” A third commented: “Man, that’s absolutely brutal. I can’t even imagine processing that at a funeral of all places. The logistics alone of keeping two families alive for 15 years is crazy.”
