Apple presents AirPods Max 2 with H2 chip and improved ANC

Six years after the debut of the original model, Apple has officially announced the AirPods Max 2. While the exterior design remains largely unchanged, the second-generation headphones introduce significant internal updates aimed at improving audio fidelity and processing power.

The core of the update is the integration of the H2 chipwhich enables several advanced features:

  • Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): Apple claims that the new model is 1.5 times more effective at neutralizing external noise compared to the first generation.

  • Enhanced Transparency Mode: This feature now offers a more natural sound profile and is automatically activated when the user starts a conversation.

  • Hi-Fi Audio: The headphones support 24-bit/48kHz lossless audio with ultra-low latency through the USB-C port.

  • Acoustic Architecture: A new high dynamic range amplifier has been added to provide more accurate bass and natural mids and highs, improving instrument localization for a more immersive spatial audio experience.

Intelligence and battery life

The use of AirPods Max 2 Apple Intelligence to provide “Custom Volume,” a feature that learns user preferences over time and adjusts levels automatically. The built-in microphones have also been upgraded to “studio quality,” focusing on more natural vocal textures during calls or recordings. Familiar features like the Digital Crown for camera control, Siri integration, and Live Translation remain central to the experience. Battery life is up to 20 hours on a single charge with ANC enabled.
