Newcastle United are interested in signing Samu Aghehowa from FC Porto, according to reports Soccer insider information.
However, the Magpies, who won the Carabao Cup last season and are aiming for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, are unlikely to spend big to secure the services of the 21-year-old Spanish international striker mid-season.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke said: “I don’t see them going out and signing Aghehowa in January.
“He has a contract with Porto until 2029 and there is a release clause of around £87 million in that contract.
“However, any club interested in Aghehowa will probably also hope to sign him for less than that release clause.”
Aghehowa has scored six goals in seven starts in the Portugal League for FC Porto so far this season.
