York and Scarborough to add Nervecentre EPR in 2026

York and Scarborough University Hospitals NHS Trust will introduce an electronic patient record (EPR) system supplied by Nervecentre in 2026.

Nervecentre was confirmed as the preferred bidder for the EPR contract last year after achieving the highest score in a joint tender process, but no date for the launch was initially announced.

A trust board document, published in October 2025, confirmed that EPR rollout is expected to begin on February 27, 2026.

A spokesperson for York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said Digital health news: “The trust continues to make good progress with the implementation of our new Nervecentre EPR system.

“The design is clinically led, supported by our digital teams to configure the system in a way that improves patient safety and clinical pathway efficiency.

“Work is underway to customize key elements to ensure the system meets clinicians’ needs ahead of the planned go-live in 2026.”

According to the board document, the first tranche of the EPR rollout will include “observations, inpatient clinical documentation (known as the Patient Safety Package and inpatient paperless modules within Nervecentre), urgent and emergency care, electronic prescribing and medication management, bed management and read-only diagnostic results.”

User acceptance testing began on October 7, 2025 with members of the digital clinical team and will be expanded to involve more users starting next month, the document states.

Helen Grantham, non-executive director of York and Scarborough, asked at the board meeting how the cultural changes needed to ensure a successful implementation of the new EPR were being managed.

James Hawkins, the trust’s chief digital and information officer, confirmed: “The digital team is collaborating with the clinical teams to design processes that are consistent across the trust’s different sites.”

He added that “a team of doctors has been attached to the project” who “will act as advocates for Nervecentre EPR in addition to advising on implementation.”

The board document highlights that “Tranche 2” of the EPR program, which focuses on order communication, will go live on June 30, 2026, and “Tranche 3” (Patient Management System, Outpatient Documentation, Operating Rooms, Endoscopy and Electronic Consent) will be implemented on October 30, 2026.

Nervecentre has established a strong presence in the Midlands, with Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Lincolnshire United University Hospitals NHS Trust; Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust select the company as their preferred EPR provider.

Other organizations in the region that have implemented Nervecentre’s EPR include University Hospitals Derby and Burton Foundation Trust, Chesterfield Royal Hospital Foundation Trust, Northampton General Hospital and East Sussex Healthcare.

Outside the Midlands, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust has also selected Nervecentre as its preferred supplier but is yet to announce a go-live date.

A source said Digital health news which Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the last remaining acute trusts without an EPR under NHSE’s frontline digitalisation programme, is also expected to announce Nervecentre as its preferred EPR bidder. The trust declined to comment.
