A look back at the year 2018: from the 2018 diaries | The Shopaholic Diaries

I know this post is a little late, but I’ve been traveling and haven’t been feeling well since the last few weeks. But hey, it’s never too late to write and I finally got my groove back and decided to start the first post of the year by reviewing the highlights of 2018.

2018 was a year of new beginnings for me as I had my roka ceremony on December 30th the previous year and within a couple of weeks, the wedding date was set for March. While I had other plans for 2018, little did I know that everything was about to change for me.

The first quarter of 2018 kept me busy with wedding shopping, planning, quitting my 9-5 job (I was working with Alibaba Group), and preparing for my big move to Mumbai, a city I had never stayed in before for more than a few days.

Here’s a look at my wedding features (you can read my full wedding series here)

I moved to Mumbai in mid-March and spent the second quarter of 2018 settling into the new city and experiencing married life. These few months were definitely the hardest as well, as I had never taken a break from work and here I was, having left my full-time job, trying to adjust to the life of a freelancer while still getting to know my husband (as we had a very brief period of dating) and managing a solo household for two.

Although before I always thought about pampering myself, now I also had to think about my life partner and my new family. I focused these months on writing and also stayed away from any important campaign. Additionally, I spent my time exploring Mumbai and getting familiar with this city that I never thought would be my home.

The third quarter of 2018 has to be my favorite, not only did I travel to Mauritius and I explored many other cities that I had never visited before. I was also getting back to work and loved having a routine – planning a content calendar for the blog, going out on photo shoots and watching my social media channels grow really boosted my confidence.

I also started doing gymnastics and seeing the positive results really made me more determined to focus more on my health in the coming months.

However, the last quarter of 2018 wasn’t so good for my health as I had a major foot injury while I was on a family trip to Ranthambore and I spent the last two months basically indoors and it really made me feel depressed as I couldn’t exercise, plan more photo shoots or basically go about my daily life due to my injury.

There were definitely some good moments too, like my trip to Ranthambore and Mahabaleshwar, first Diwali with my new family, my birthday celebrations with friends and family; and definitely my Most Influential Content Marketing Professional award from CMO Asia.

Overall, looking back on 2018, while I had some accomplishments and new beginnings, I didn’t spend as much time writing as I would have liked. While I could blame a lot of things for this, simply put, I didn’t spend enough time writing.

As the new year rolls around, I’m on the road to recovery and already feeling much better and determined to make 2019 bigger and better.

This year I have decided to be more organized and divide my time equally between creating content for the blog and for my social media channels, as I have come to understand that while I love doing photo shoots and preparing visual content for instagramblogging gives me more creative satisfaction.

So, I have a lot of content ideas that I will implement soon and at the same time I plan to start my Youtube channel that I have been thinking about for a long time.

Aside from work, as the foot injury is healing, I plan to get back into my exercise routine and fitness would be one of my main goals this year.

Before I end this blog post, I’d love to know what posts you’ve enjoyed reading on my blog over the past year. What would you like to see more of in 2019? Don’t forget to leave your opinions in the comments below!
