The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers at home on Tuesday night to even the World Series at two games apiece.
But in certain corners of social media, the funniest comment had to do not with the Blue Jays’ victory, but with Sydney Sweeney’s participation in the Fox broadcast.
Sydney was present at the game, alongside boxer Christy Martin, who she plays in an upcoming biopic, and also pre-recorded an introductory segment that didn’t really sit well with some viewers.

Sydney Sweeney World Series segment flops
If you’re a sports fan, you’re familiar with these segments leading up to big games:
Some celebrity, usually with ties to one of the two teams (and it’s not hard to find celebrities with ties to Los Angeles!), will excite viewers, as if half the viewers haven’t already paid their rent money on FanDuel.
Sydney has a new sports movie to promote (hence the many cuts to her sitting next to Christy), so it must have seemed like a natural choice.
Unfortunately, some very outspoken baseball fans disagreed.

“Why not roll out the red carpet and place their names exactly where they belong? High above the streets, with bright lights,” Sydney said in her introduction.
“Winning, real winning, it’s not polished. It’s bruised, it’s messy, it’s imperfect, it’s everything you can’t fake. It’s won, it’s beautiful on its own,” he continued as clips of the teams played on the screen,” he continued, adding:
“Let’s save Hollywood for last. Welcome to game four of the World Series on Fox.”
Okay, it’s a little cheesy, but these things usually are. That’s why it’s so strange that viewers basically reacted by throwing rotten products at their screens:

Baseball fans say Sydney struck out on ‘creepy’ introduction
“Why does Sydney Sweeney narrate the intro to the fourth game of the World Series?” a person wrote in X, according to Page six.
“Sydney Sweeney’s announcement for the World Series? Who invited you?” asked another.
“Why is Sydney Sweeney doing the World Series intro? That was a creepy tone of voice too,” a third offered.
“Sydney Sweeney’s monologue to open Game 4 of the World Series in Los Angeles, that’s certainly a choice,” a fourth chimed in.
You get the idea. Sydney’s introduction was exactly a grand slam, but since few critics offered specific details, it’s unclear exactly what the problem was.
And at the end of the day, hopefully we can all agree that if Sydney was more irritated than excited to watch Shohei Ohtani’s World Series pitching debut, he may be watching baseball for the wrong reasons.
