It’s time to break out your sweater collection and get in line for a pumpkin spice latte because the coziest season of the year is here. And if you want to duplicate it all, then you need to head to a specific city on the west coast.
In September 2024, All Clear Travel Insurance published its ranking of the most welcoming cities on the planet. He came to his conclusion after creating an initial list of cities regularly mentioned on social media and in publications as “cozy” and popular for fall and winter city breaks. It then provided each city with data points based on the number of UNESCO World Heritage sites, bookstores, cafes, cinemas, theaters and museums per square mile. It also took into account each city’s annual rainfall and the number of Instagram posts that used “#cozy[city]”Each data point was then weighted and each city was given a score out of 100.
After all was counted, the team named San Francisco the most welcoming destination in the United States and the 12th most welcoming destination in the world.
Although really, for anyone who frequently visits the Northern California city, it’s no surprise that San Francisco took the crown as the most welcoming place in the country. With its mist-drenched mornings, charming Victorian homes, and numerous neighborhood cafes, it feels like something out of a Hallmark movie.

Other cozy places in the US that made the list include Boston at No. 13, Chicago at No. 17, and New York City at No. 20. As for the coziest destination of all, that honor went to Brussels, Belgium, but we think domestic options can easily rival this European getaway, too.
