Are Manchester United planning to bolster their midfield options with a pair of English stars?

While there was much speculation during the October international break that Ruben Amorim might be removed from his role on the Old Trafford bench, Manchester United have certainly claimed some recent momentum.

Last seen over the weekend securing an action-packed 4-2 home win against Brighton, the former Sporting Lisbon boss has seen his team win each of their three consecutive Premier League appearances.

As they fight their way into the Champions League places, it appears the atmosphere at Old Trafford is at its highest since Amorim’s arrival 11 months ago.

However, despite spending more than £200m on the trio of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko over the summer, United are reportedly already putting together their plans ahead of the January transfer window.

With academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo once again speculated to be interested in securing a loan spell outside the red half of Manchester, United are reported to be interested in adding midfield reinforcements.

With the Old Trafford hierarchy set to once again back Amorim when the January window opens, it has been suggested that United are keeping an eye on a pair of English stars.

Adam Wharton – Crystal Palace

While Adam Wharton may only have joined Crystal Palace last year for a fee of around £22 million, the England international has adapted to Premier League football in sensational fashion.

Enjoying what has been a veritable rise to stardom, the former Blackburn star finds his stock at an all-time high and is widely regarded as one of the Three Lions’ best midfield prospects.

Wharton, who played a prominent role in the heart of Oliver Glasner’s midfield and helped Palace to their iconic first FA Cup crown in May, has been heavily linked with a host of Premier League giants.

As well as ongoing links over a possible move from London to Chelsea, United remain big admirers of Palace’s budding talisman since the summer and Amorim has reportedly sanctioned a possible move for the 21-year-old.

With The mirror Reporting earlier this month that the Old Trafford hierarchy could be willing to approach Palace with a £60m offer in January, a move to Manchester could help Wharton earn a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad next summer.

However, with four years left on his current contract at Selhurst Park, Palace also demonstrated during the Marc Guehi saga that they will not be intimidated by any kind of deal that does not meet their demands.

Jobe Bellingham – Borussia Dortmund

Publicly rejecting some heavyweight Premier League interests over the summer, many eyebrows were raised following Jobe Bellingham’s decision to follow in his brother’s footsteps and complete a successful move to Germany.

Crowned Championship Young Player of the Season for his performances during Sunderland’s promotion-winning campaign, there was much speculation about a possible move to Chelsea.

However, while his older brother Jude may have broken a number of records during his sensational three-year spell with Borussia Dortmund, the 20-year-old has failed to find his place in rural Germany.

Only featuring in the final six minutes of BVB’s 1-0 home win against Cologne last weekend, the England Under-21 international has failed to find any form of fluidity under Niko Kovac.

Having not played a single Bundesliga game since late August, Bellingham’s family have also been reported to be increasingly frustrated with his development outside of England.

With speculation continuing since the summer that Mainoo is interested in securing a January loan move away from Old Trafford, The daily express reported over the weekend that Amorim and his team had discussed Bellingham internally.
