Memphis Depay etched his name into Dutch football history last week, overtaking Robin van Persie to become Holland’s all-time leading goalscorer with his 51st and 52nd goals.
To commemorate this milestone, PUMA has teamed up with the forward to create the MD51 ULTRA, a limited edition design that tells the story of his journey both on and off the pitch.
Built on a white base, the boots feature contrasting color combinations: one in blue and black to reflect family, faith and culture, the other in orange and black to capture their football triumphs. Details include his famous lion tattoo, the number 10, tributes to his Ghanaian roots and a nod to his mother, Cora.
But the fans won’t be able to stand up to them. There are only 51 pairs, each of which goes directly to the people who shaped your life, from family to mentors to close friends.
“I was a child with big dreams; a cub became a lion on the biggest stage,” Depay said. “Becoming the Netherlands’ top men’s scorer is a real honour… I wanted to celebrate by giving a special token of my gratitude to the people who helped me along the way.”
For Depay, it’s less about hype and more about personal gratitude. And for everyone else? Another reminder that the man with the lion on his chest is now roaring the loudest in the history of Dutch football.
