Vinicius Junior put in a top-notch performance in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in Sunday’s ‘Clásico’ at the Santiago Bernabéu, but just over 70 minutes into the game, the fourth referee lifted the substitutions board showing the number ‘7’, signaling coach Xabi Alonso’s decision to substitute the Brazilian winger.
Vinicius went on a long, loud tirade as he walked off the field, not shaking Alonso’s hand but walking past him, still shouting, while Alonso seemed to ignore him. He even reportedly threatened to leave the club. For its part, the club’s hierarchy remains firm in the face of any decision that Alonso makes at this point.
According ASAlthough the initial anger has subsided somewhat, Vinicius is now seriously considering a change of scenery, believing Alonso simply doesn’t like him. Several Premier League clubs have shown interest in his services in the past (it is not exactly the first time that Vinicius has had problems of this type in Madrid), as have clubs in Saudi Arabia. When the season ends, his contract will be reduced to his final year.
