A MODERN-DAY Bonnie and Clyde have been caught getting intimate in a popular restaurant, before brazenly robbing the place.
CCTV footage captured the pair becoming irate at the Arizona restaurant before fleeing with hundreds of dollars in cash, liquor and a phone.
One clip shows a hooded man and woman arriving at the restaurant before brazenly kneeling in the bushes outdoors and having sex.
The couple then reportedly cemented the deed with a heist: They stole $450, an iPhone 5, and a bottle of Bacardi rum from the romantic, rose-adorned restaurant.
Scottsdale police soon launched an investigation into the strange robbery, which took place around 3:50 a.m. Saturday at the Mon Cherie restaurant in Scottsdale.
Authorities were alerted to the incident that morning after employees noticed two doors were damaged.
While the suspects have not yet been identified, their playing in front of the camera has provided clear images of their faces, police said.
Owner Lexi Caliskan joked that the robbery “was kind of romantic,” comparing the couple to infamous thieves Bonnie and Clyde.
she said ABC15 Arizona: “They got caught up in the moment, there are roses everywhere, maybe it was something romantic, but modern-day Bonnie and Clyde.
“The first thing I noticed was that the entire stand was totally destroyed. There were things everywhere.”
He added that perhaps the restaurant’s romantic decor was to blame for the couple’s torrid antics.
The restaurant, located near First Avenue and Goldwater Boulevard, is a popular destination for bachelorette parties and date nights.
Its floral decoration and pink pasta have turned it into one of the most photographed restaurants in the city.
Despite finding some humor in the incident, staff revealed they still felt “violated” and called the ordeal “disturbing.”
Waitress Caitlyn Sorensen fumed: “It’s a very happy and positive place, so the fact that they did that to our establishment is very disturbing.
“As if this isn’t the place for that. Yes, we are full of romance and happiness, but that’s not what we want here.”
The restaurant remains open for service.
DOUBLE THREAT
It is not the first time that the police are looking for a couple of thieves.
In 2020, police launched a search for a British couple thought to have scammed at least a dozen pubs and restaurants in the past 10 months.
The tricksters used the same ruse every time.
