Apprentice eclipses master as Jordan Love outlasts Aaron Rodgers to propel Packers past Steelers

Jordan Love upstaged Aaron Rodgers and then paid tribute to the man he replaced as quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

Love was Rodgers’ backup for several years, but got his chance when the veteran left Green Bay in 2023 for the New York Jets before moving to Pittsburgh at the start of this season.

And he showed he had followed a lot of Rodgers’ advice with a fantastic display in which he threw 20 straight completions for 360 yards and three touchdowns.

“Obviously, being behind A-Rod for three years, being able to see him and the high-level play he was capable of and being able to put the ball in the money at all times was great for me to be able to see,” Love said.

He played fantastic: Rodgers was impressed with Love’s performance

Rodgers and Love shared a brief moment after the game and the teacher was impressed with the apprentice’s performance.

“He played very well, he played fantastic,” Rodgers said. “He’s had a very good season. He’s been very efficient with the football. He’s opportunistic, although I felt like he was very patient tonight. He took the running solutions, he took the controls, he moved well in the pocket. I thought he played very well.”

Love’s efforts allowed The Packers will emerge with a 35-25 victory and move to 5-1-1 for the season.

The Packers’ newly acquired defensive end Micah Parsons said: “He’s proven he’s the successor.

“He’s the up-and-comer. Like J-Love, talking about when I was coming here, I was like, ‘I know they have a quarterback, I know I have a quarterback.'” “I’m very proud of him, of everything he’s been through, of how he’s developed as a player, of how he’s developed as a person, and right now he’s playing really good football.”

It’s great – LaFleur is satisfied with patient love

Added Packers coach Matt LaFleur: “It’s great for Jordan. Jordan has worked hard to get here. He was patient through the whole process, through the whole journey, and took advantage of the opportunity, he really did. It’s been great.”

On a near-perfect night for Green Bay, they were also able to welcome back wide receiver Christian Watson, who returned after tearing an ACL in the regular-season finale last season and made four catches for 85 yards.
